A Torontoist reader sent us these photos of one-of-a kind bike posts around Queen and Sorauren. TOist would love to know who's responsible for these posts. They look sturdy and do a lot to brighten up the streetscape. Our tipster also "doubts that thieves could break these suckers with 2x4's." We hope that those thieves never try.

"The tree and dog sculptures-cum-bike stands were designed by a group of psychiatric survivors who meet at Parkdale Activity and Recreation Centre (PARC) on Tuesdays."
absolutely fabulous. It would be great if other communities could redesign their own posts to be as lovely as these.
Note to self... reading Spacing Wire three-four times a day obviously not enough to keep up. Whoops.
They're gorgeous! Definitely calls for a special sightseeing trip.
Total fluke Ron. I read that site once in a blue moon, and just chanced to remember this item.
Hi Ron, Boy Reporter - I see someone put up the spacing link already..nice! but hey, your pics are nicer.
Note - Phil Sarazen is the guy who came up with the ideas and coordinated it all.. they are working on more now.
thanks for the bike pin too!
see ya
tammy
and the parkdale village bia [business improvement area] worked with phil to get them up [we had to approve 'em, believe it or not]. there is somewhere in the office [ask devin, i don't work there anymore] plans to expand the program and offer these posts to individual businesses.
see? bia's aren't always the bad guy.
the parkdale village bia was also involved in getting the posts put up. there's a plan somewhere to approach individual businesses and get bike posts put up in front the store that reflect the individual merchant's trade.
Do people use them?
AWESOME.... i hope to see more around the city, beautifying the landscape!
Maybe I'm just full of bile and hate, but I rather like the iconic quality of the ring and post. I think it would be a shame if they were supplanted all over the city.
no danger of that rek. these posts are way more expensive.
