Are You Ready For a Brand New Beat?

2006_11_11Dancing.jpg It's an invitation across the nation; a chance for folks to meet. Next Sunday, November 19th, multi-disciplinary artist Nicole Stoffman's fifth I Want Rhythm happening / installation / dance party will be shaking its groove thang starting on the front steps of the Church of the Redeemer at Avenue and Bloor. I Want Rhythm is a project Stoffman, an actor, singer and dancer, initiated this September in an attempt to reclaim public space. Previous I Want Rhythms have toe-tapped their way through Queen West, the Annex and Kensington Market.

They work like this: Stoffman and the participants meet at a given location, and then "dance along a lively stretch of Toronto to music coming out of shops, restaurants, cars and street musicians." People walking by will either watch or start to join in. So, if you feel like busting a move or simply dropping it like it's hot in front of a historic Toronto church, shake your bon-bon over to Avenue and Bloor tomorrow next Sunday. It will probably be better than that crap Mick Jagger and David Bowie came up with.

This is awesome.

But I think I like Mick Jagger a little less now.
