We’ve Got World Class Universities

2006_10_20knoxcollege.jpgThe Times Higher Education Supplement and Newsweek have both come out with long lists of the world’s best universities. It’s not much of a surprise, but the Ivy League figures prominently with Harvard and Yale in the top five for both lists. The British based THES ranks Oxford and Cambridge prominently while Newsweek relegates Oxford to eighth place.
Canadian universities stack up well. U of T, at #18, is the best Canadian university on the Newsweek list. It’s joined by UBC (#31), McGill (#42) and the University of Alberta (#55). The THES list (hidden behind a subscriber firewall) is even more controversial putting McGill at #21, a bit above U of T at #27. But all of you who went to McGill already knew that it was better than U of T, right?

I say this having absolutely no proof other than my experiences as a student at U of T, and having never visited any other university campus outside of Toronto other than Queen’s: McGill sucks.

Oh god, I laughed so hard when I read that.

The funny thing about McGill is this; whenever you ask a student or a grad what they liked about McGill, they’ll just talk ad nauseum about how much they loved Montreal.
I swear to God, that school just exists as an excuse for rich anglos to eat bagels and Pizza Madonna while getting shitfaced off Boreal and dep wine.

Chris, you forgot smoked meat. The most attractive aspect of McGill is its proximity to Schwartz’s.
