Toronto's Zombies to Set "Thriller" World Record

nurse_zombie_thriller.jpg

It looks like this Halloween is going to be very zombie-filled in Toronto. On Sunday, we had Toronto's Annual Zombie Walk. And this Sunday, October 29th, at the Harbourfront Community Centre, a group of some 200 Torontonians will be setting the Guiness World Record for the Largest Performance of "Thriller" - in full zombie ensemble. And they want you to participate.

Here's the rundown:

Everyone welcome!
We'll teach you the dance!

Sunday, October 29, 2006
12:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Harbourfront Center (627 Queen's Quay West)
A minimum $3.00 donation is requested to cover the cost of the space.
(This is a NO-profit event. Really.)
MUST BE 18 YEARS OR OLDER.
Bring photo ID.
And bring a lunch, snacks, and a water bottle. Zombies get hungry too...

We thought that zombies had no use for money. And that the only sustenance they needed - food or drink - was delicious human brains. Oh well.

All of the rest of the details, including how to register, are over at in es sens.

Here's the original Michael Jackson video if you need to refresh your memory:

And here's a Bollywood Kollywood version, just because [Thanks Mel for the link and Lata for the correction]. Potential dancing zombies: note the different moves, and remember that you will not be using them - you need only concern yourself with Jackson's version. This video is for comparison only.

Happy Thrilling!

Shot of Sunday's Zombie Walk taken by fotograf.416 from the Torontoist Flickr Pool. Plenty more great shots from the walk are floating around in the pool, too.

Two comments:

Check out the participant info letter, it says "NO CAMERAS" excuse me but WTF?

As much as I love the idea I think some caveat emptor is in order, they mention that this is non-profit, non-profit is not equal to charity, this seems to be an attempt to get free dancers for a publicity stunt for a (small, possibly worthy) commercial dance studio, I'd want to ask some pretty pointed questions about what they plan to do with what they shoot and why they feel the need to restrict others from shooting and I'd want to read their release pretty carefully.

OK three comments

Can't they come up with their own idea for a publicity stunt instead of ripping off Thea? It was bad enough that the cat rescue people cribbed the zombie walk idea but at least that was for a legitimate charity. I think it was particularily crass that they showed up on Sunday, did their little dance, passed around their flyers and then took off, they didn't even participate in the walk...

I'm looking for information on how to participate in the 2007 World Record Attempt for the MJ Thriller Dance.
