Friday, October 13th:
Count Choc-U-Litis
A bunch of unknowns at a tiny Ossington bar on Friday the 13th wouldn't normally sound like a recipe for awesome times, but don't be fooled by the lack of celebrity on the bill: Miss Screech and her undead glam-rock posse are nothing short of stars. The up and coming electro goddess made her debut in some of Toronto's trendiest clothing boutiques, of all places, and her surprising set at WEMF 2006 began with an old school Ghostbusters record. Who could resist?

Another unsurprising installation at Reverb/Holy Joe's, the lineup looks surprisingly promising: Knifehandchop, Robotpilot and Xofer will be busting out live PA "ravecore", breakcore and some dirty breaks, respectively. We can't wait for the "ultimate mungle* battle", either.

Saturday, October 14th:

The night (some of) you have all been waiting for, Fast Forward is already the 9th most-attended event in the history of PureRave (and the first three were WEMFs). This event is clearly going to be something epic, although we wonder how the crowd mix is going to play out.
Fast Forward promises to be an important chapter in the story of the strange interactions between two increasingly polarized communities: the all-ages, fun fur-wearing, binkie-chewing, glowstick-toting, candy-raver happy hardcore fans, and the towel-swinging, camouflaged bohtastic rinsebots of the drum 'n bass/jungle scene.
Featuring huge names like Nicky Blackmarket, Skibadee and Shabba for the DnB side of things is just the start of it: what makes Fast Forward one to watch is the second Toronto appearance of professional hypnotist Anabolic Frolic since the final Hullabaloo. The addition of DJ's from Goodfellaz and Nocturnal Commissions makes it only more tempting.

* Mungle is a mixture between death metal and jungle. Seriously.

Newsstand: November 9, 2009
*heart* it's going to be such a great friday the 13th!
Re: Hullabaloo: I hope this doesn't mean that Frolic has retired from hypnosis comedy or teaching rave school. ;)
I never thought I would see the day when PR was linked on TOist. Worlds! Colliding! ha ha..
Wow, this is a huge day in my world. I made mention on TOist! hehehe
ALl of these events are sure to be something good. :D
my comment didn't work? it was supposed to be a '
ok, so it doesn't know how to make little 'greater-than-three hearts' :P
Greater than signs are interpreted by the comment box as the beginnings of an HTML tag. That's probably why it's not working!
There is no excuse for glowsticks. Not the first time we saw them in 1993, and especially not now. They are exactly the same as that guy who drives a 5.0 or eagle talon or honda civic and has neon glowing underneath. the first time we saw a glowstick we knew things were getting seedy.
Shawn wants a light show. Oh, and pass the Vick's inhaler, I'm rushin'. ;)
Since it's inception Nocturnal Commissions has worked to break down the artificial polarization between the jungle and hardcore scenes, and Fast Forward was the culmination of that trend. I feel (and it would seem most of the 1900+ attendees agreed) that we've achieved remarkable progress in reuniting the underground dance music and rave sub-culture. We can now rave as we please - at last "glow" and "boh" have been reunited. :)
