Garbage, Scopophilia, Botulism

toronto_garbage.jpgA coalition of Ontario municipalities created to fight Toronto's garbage may collapse, writes the London Free Press.

Police have found one man dead and another wounded in an East York housing complex near O'Connor Drive and Eglinton East. Over at Flemingdon Park, a woman was shot and a security guard escaped injury when the shooter's gun jammed.

The Toronto Star is gathering opinions on our public toilets. Peter Nadorvolgyi writes, "Some of the public washrooms in Toronto make me feel like I’m in a third-world country."

The Leafs beat Ed Belfour's Florida 2-1 in overtime. Belfour did not come out to play against his old team.

AM 640 is attempting to expand our vocabulary with Toronto-centric words like "scopophelia". Telescope retailers have noted increasing sales over the past few years, and the police remind us that it is illegal to spy on neighbours.

Durham Transit workers are on strike for the 5th full day, the Sun writes. The last strike in 2003 Oshawa lasted 18 days.

And finally, some bottles of botulism-contaminated carrot juice are still being found in local stores.

Thanks to crashedcar for the picture of Toronto's garbage.

"Police have found 1 man found dead"

Hey Ron, I know it's 640's mistake and not yours, but the word is actually scopophilia.

(It's a term used semi-frequently in film and visual art theory.)

Oh, and sorry, Ian, I just assumed this was Ron's post.

Interesting... didn't know the word existed, couldn't find anything about it.
