Add Michael As A Friend

Michael Ignatieff is a popular guy. He has 171 friends in Toronto, 66 at Queen's and 60 at McGill. His favourite music is by Glenn Gould and his favourite movie is The Godfather Part I. He's married, interested in women, and looking for friendship.

Online friendship - on Facebook, the ever-expanding online social network.

In daily human contact, social networking has replaced awkward introductions the way that instant messaging replaced casual phonecalls, and obviously the tech-savvy promoters have caught on.

It's no mystery that people in Canada like the internet. In fact, this Torontoista likes the internet better than puppies, chocolate and religion. So is there really anything more tempting than adding the front-running Liberal leadership candidate to your online social network? Probably not. Will being Michael Ignatieff's "Facebook Friend" get people to the polling station? It just might.

Those of you who have Facebook (registration on the site is now open to everyone) can add Michael as a friend. Those of you who don't have Facebook have no idea how lucky you are.

While ol'Iggy may be using facebook, he's not the only one trying to use the internets as a means to reach younger voters. Both David Miller and Frances Nunziata have myspace pages and David Miller's ad is currently posted on YouTube. One wonders how much, if any, both efforts will have in terms of votes, especially since last time I checked Nunziata didn't have any online 'friends' and both their ridings are much smaller than a federal campaign.

I should point out that - for now, at least - I have more friends on Facebook than Michael Ignatieff. Maybe I should run for Prime Minister.

Isn't The Godfather also the favourite movie of Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong-il, and Richard Roeper? What company.

David I'm not your friend! WAAAH.

This calls for a Torontoist group or something to be started on Facebook, no??

I just added him! Haha.
I waste so much time on Facebook though...

He has 171 friends in Toronto, 66 at Queen's, 60 at McGill and 1 friend in the White House.

So a guy doesn't live in Canada for decades - comes back - and we trip over ourselves to make him leader cause he was a big shot at a big college down there in big 'ole U.S. and A!

Sure he supported the war - but for GOOD REASONS - unlike Bush and his supporters who just went in cause they wanted to kill innocent people. Right? Oh wait, I think they think they also went in for GOOD REASONS. But that's Bush - he's an American fool and Ignatieff is Canadian and READS BOOKS - even writes them too!! You know, like Trudeau.

Anyway I'm not a Liberal and not a supporter of any of the other candidates particularly (I'd lie in the progressive camps of the Kennedy, Dion, Rae camps) but I know a fake when I see one and Ignatieff is a fake.

Can I make a wager on here that if he loses he'll be back working in the US within 5 years? 25$.
