We Say Goodbye to Mr. Dressup Again

Word came down from the CBC that the final episode of Mr. Dressup reruns aired over the weekend. So that’s it. We wake up now to a CBC sans the Tickle Trunk, Finnigan, an androgynous puppet named Casey and of course the joyful presence of Ernie Coombs.
Coombs retired in 1996 and sadly passed away in September of 2001 but the CBC has been airing reruns of the show for well over a decade now but now the only place you’ll be able to get (re)-acquainted with the Tickle Trunk and Mr. Dressup is on DVD.

    Actually you can visit the Tickle Trunk in person at the CBC Museum on Front Street and pose for pictures with the original treehouse as my wife and I did earlier this year.
    I have an autographed picture of Mr. Dressup from early 1970s when he did a promotional circuit through Northern Ontario. It’s my only celebrity autograph and probably the only one I could ever want.

    That’s nice. At least your showing a little concern for those who enjoy tickle trunk. I have already purchased the dvd and I am really enjoying it once again.
