TIFF 2006: Blog Roundup Day 2

Canadian films don't make money. It's almost a certainty in the Canadian film industry but once in a while a film comes along that gives us hope. This year Fido, just might be that film. Our glowing review is here and other bloggers agree that the zombie comedy (zombedy?) about a '50s community where zombies are pets was the right choice to open the Canada First series.

Popped Culture's Jeremy Barker gives thumbs up to Carrie Anne Moss and Billy Connolly who apparently called the film "the weirdest thing he's ever been involved in." On a side note, Mr. Connolly has a website that'll cripple any browser. You've been warned.

We're also quite impressed that 14-year old K'Sun Ray of Fido skipped out on the post screening party because it was a school night. Good on ya kiddo.

Guy Maddin's new film Brand upon the Brain premiered at the Elgin last night and those who saw the accompanied performance should count themselves lucky. While orchestras are easy enough to cobble together, castrati are probably a little harder to come by. Toronto Life's Paul Matthews weighs in on it here.

2006_9_9flaming.jpgThe Flaming Lips are not just in town for the V-Fest (we hope they're staying warm out there) but also to play outdoor shows at second-rate Bloor Street bars with marshmallows and neon visors. In truth they were showing up for the premiere of Summercamp!, the Lips provided the soundtrack.

Finally, Brangelina's security detail should really keep an eye out for these bloggers. One wonders whether she actually spotted Brangelina at the gala for Babel. It's been about two days since the last post and we certainly hope nothing has happened to the poor girl.

Here's hoping Fido gets some attention after the festival is over. We can't leave all the torch carrying to the usual suspects. And much obliged for the link!
