Emily Haines rare solo CD for charity

Think you're the world's biggest Metric fan? Here's a rare chance to prove it.

There's a copy of the very first, super-rare, debut CD of Emily Haines for auction on eBay courtesy of Toronto music blogger (and ex-Torontoist staffer) Chromewaves.

No, we're not talking about her latest, critically-acclaimed release, Knives Don't Have Your Back. This is something much more special.

Circa 1997, when Metric was but a twinkle in her eye, Emily Haines released a first solo CD called Cut in Half and Double. It was on indie label Flop Enterprises. They made hardly any of these discs and these days it's completely out-of-print and extremely rare. When it first came out, Eye Weekly reviewed it favourably. Torontoist was allowed a rare listen to the disc and can independently verify its awesomeness.

Chromewaves was prompted to put the CD on auction after hearing the plight of Pat Spurgeon, drummer for San Francisco rockers Rogue Wave. Pat is very ill and in desperate need of a kidney transplant. As we all know, health care in the US is damn expensive and insurance won't cover his skyrocketing costs. Chromewaves has pledged to give 100% of the winning amount to the cause.
