City Cracks Down on Noisy Shops, Gardiner Report Delivered to Council, Owner Charged in House Explosion

The City has passed a by-law that will fine shops who blare music onto the street. We kind of think this is a silly by-law. During the day a busy street is a loud street and wonder what the city is going to crack down on next?
The TTC is demanding $3 million from its union for money lost during the wildcat strike. Like the popular high school girl asked out by the pimply faced nerd the union tells the TTC to drop dead.
2006_9_6gardiner.jpgCouncillors are getting a report that outlines possible future plans for the Gardiner. But the report by the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corp. won’t be seen by the public which we think is just silly during an election year when we need to discuss big issues like the Gardiner.
A city report looks at our crosswalks and determines that 37 of them are in need of serious upgrades that will cost around $5.7 million.
Two York students were involved in a violent domestic dispute yesterday. Police believe a man was stabbed by his ex-girlfriend who then turned the knife on herself. Both survived.

They’re going to fine stores? at least they close by 10 at the very very latest.
what about the civic nation and others who drive around with the sound of death coming from within (engine/stereo)??

I gotta say I’m all for the noise regulations. I lived near a store that PUMPED out music all day long and it sucked. I’m totally cool with them playing whatever they want inside, and if the noise comes outside through the door (along with the air conditioning, *sigh*) fine. But there’s no need to pump your music into the public space.

damn fascists … what’s next i have to ask?
    - loud car stereos.
    - loud iPods.
    - loud music in bars that doesn’t disturb people outside the bar.
    - people with shoes that make a lot of noise when they walk.
    - people talking loudly.

People who disagree with the City of Toronto. Consider this your final warning!

wow…that’s the SECOND time this week someone’s called me a fascist.

    I’m with you, Allison! :)

theres a wee difference between loud car stereos and mufflers or whatever they are, and people talking loudly…
im not talking about taking every ounce of ‘fun’ out of everyones lives… jeese… I’m pretty sure screeching mufflers, and death enducing bass 2am on a Tuesday morning coming from a parked car out of ones bedroom window isn’t classified as ‘fun’.
