Big Bins Come To Town, LeDrew Joins Mayoral Race, Cameras at Jane and Finch

The City is paying over $28 million to make sure we get bigger recycling bins. The plan is to make recycling easier for Torontonians. We think the Sun’s headline spells it out best “Recycling now 4 times the fun.” Who could hate that?
The OPP raid biker gang strongholds all over the province, including a chapter of the Vagabonds here in Toronto. They found guns and meth labs. 500 police officers were involved in the raid.
2006_9_29stephen.jpgFormer Liberal party president Stephen LeDrew jons the mayoral race. He comes out swinging at David Miller, saying that “”This city cannot afford him as mayor for another four years.” He also takes shots at Jane Pitfield “She’s a nice lady. She has good intentions. She has very little executive ability or political ability in my view.”
Voters and candidates for Catholic School Board trustee are crying foul over signs at schools that advertise the names of current trustees.
A Toronto Sun columnist has a run-in with a very scary driver.
They’re holding a rally in support for our troops in Dundas Square at noon.
The Police are in the news a lot and much of it isn’t good. A shopkeeper alleges that he was beaten and robbed by members of the drug squad. The Police Services Board passes a rule that cops charged with serious criminal offences can have their pay suspended until they are cleared.
Two people have been arrested for throwing boulders at cars from an overpass.
The police are mounting cameras in the Jane and Finch area and other parts of northeastern Scarborough. We’re curious why this hasn’t gotten more coverage.

I’d rather have Miller or Pitfield than a Mayor in a bowtie, thanks. That’s before you get into his history with taxes.

support our troops? you mean support their dying for a failing american empire? yeh, right.
the west’s campaign in afghanistan is a fool’s errant. the soviets, alexander the great, the british all FAILED. we’re just pissing off more people …

“Support Our Troops” is a political strawman. How many people, regardless of how little support they have for a given war, or outright violent opposition to it, actually hate the hapless folks who get assigned to fight and die there?

It’s to bad they couldn’t come up with someone better to take on Miller, because boy oh boy do we every need someone who can do what Miller should have been doing. I know that council gets some of the blame too but the we need someone to kick ass and take names and actually get some stuff done, instead of another three years of idling. Most especially stop using the TPA as an excuse, give it up, the land grab isn’t going to work, let’s get on with the hard and expensive work of actually doing something with any of the portlands east of Yonge Street.

Ok, nitpick: “the Jane and Finch area and other parts of northeastern Scarborough”
