...and save.

The city is pushing its toilet replacement program "Flush With Savings" with ads on litter bins. It's hard not to go on punning, but instead Torontoist will take a look at some of the 100 or so city-approved replacement models on the downloadable list [pdf].
Toilet selection is not a snap. First of all there's Lpf -- or liters per flush, for the incognoscenti. Your regular toilet probably dispenses 13 or more Lpf, which is way more than is needed to do the job, in a properly designed object. So in the approved list there are single flush toilets that use 6 Lpf or, with a higher rebate attached, 4.8, 4, and even 3.8 Lpf. Then there's something called a dual flush which can go either with 6 or 3, depending (on what, though, Torontoist does not know). Got that sorted?
Then comes price. At the low end you'll pay $90 for a Foremost "Premier" or a Glacier Bay "Premier"; and at the high end you'll find the elegant Kohler "Purist" with elongated bowl and electrical power assist, for something like $4,125. Most run around $300-400 or so.
Names might do it for you. As well as the "Premier" and "Purist" you can choose among the Mansfield "Maverick" (for that ride you'll remember?), the American Standard "Champion," Eljer's "Toronto Savoy," the Vortens "Tornado," and our favourite, the Briggs "Vacuity."
Whatever moves you, there's a toilet for everyone here, so get with the program.

Dual flush toilets are great and make so much sense. I think they should just make them mandatory in all new homes.
i totally agree!!!! i'm amazed how long it's taken for dual flush to be widely available here - i remember seeing them when i was a kid in australia like 20 years ago. just a sign of our complete aversion to conserving water 'cause we've got lots of it. we'll just waste it until it gets scarce, of course.
I also like dual flush toilets. I'm also hardly surprised that Boy Reporter is advocating for something to become mandatory.
These things are great, but do these low flush toilets do the job? I've found that even my own hi-flow with its intese stream cannot overcome my work, requring several attempts for total obliteration.
