Couple of big, big press releases from the hard working TIFF press office today, with a slate of film announcements in their Gala and Special Presentation programmes.

The big announcement in the Gala programme is undoubtedly the world premiere of For Your Consideration, Christopher Guest’s latest moc-moc-a-doc. A comedic look at the film industry featuring all the Guest regulars (plus, urgh, Ricky Gervais), we hope to see Toronto’s own Catherine O’Hara and (co-writer) Eugene Levy at the premiere.

Also announced are Christopher N Rowley’s Bonneville; Emilo Estevez’s (?) Bobby, set around Bobby Kennedy’s assassination and featuring a star studded cast including the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Demi Moore (which also deserves a ?); and the North American premiere of Pedro Almodovar’s highly rated Volver.

The Special Presentations big hitter is undoubtedly the North American premiere of Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, a tale that follows Hugh Jackman’s search for the fountain of youth in 16th century Spain, through the modern day, to the 26th century. Also starring Rachel Weisz, we can but hope it’s less heavy handed in its moralising than Requiem for a Dream.

Titles receiving their world premieres as part of the Special Presentations programme include the Paul Haggis penned The Last Kiss (starring the dreamy Zach Braff!); salsa biopic El Cantante (featuring Jennifer Lopez); and Marc Forster’s Stranger than Fiction.

Earlier in the week we forgot to mention a release that featured rather random grab bag of announcements, which included the world premier of Werner Herzog’s Rescue Dawn as part of the Masters programme.
