Motorcyclist Dies On Gardiner, TO Gets Housing Money, Siemens Keeps Lobbying

2006_8_28gardiner.jpgAnother death on the Gardiner. A motorcyclist died in an accident around 7:30 pm. Earlier reports blamed racing but a police detective said the biker was most likely trying to perform a wheelie when his bike flipped over and killed the rider.

Palais Royale will be getting its parking lot. This fall, the city will be paving over a median on Lakeshore Boulevard to provide parking space for the renovated club.

The city is breathing a small sigh of relief. The federal government and Queen's Park announced that Toronto will be getting all the money promised for housing projects. Siemens puts a twist to their lobbying at City Hall. It seems that the German company would build a plant in Ontario if it meant getting the subway contract. The idea seems like a last ditch effort from Siemens considering voting on the Bombardier contract for new subway cars happens on Wednesday.

Police stop a debit/credit card scam that involves using fake machines to steal PINs. The men nabbed may have had ties to the Tamil Tigers.

Oh Porter Air, your "cheeky raccoon mascot" and comely Tyler Brule designed uniforms may endear you to some but not the cold-hearted here at Torontoist or Olivia Chow. She wants Porter Air to be grounded until the Feds complete their review of the Toronto Port Authority in October.
