Hottest Night Ever, Porter Air Gives Raccoons A Bad Name, We Get A New Arts Fest

2006_8_1fan.jpg
We know it’s hot out there. It’s so hot that last night was on record as the hottest night in Toronto ever. According to electricity companies we were just shy of the power record yesterday so keep up the good work everyone, don’t do stupid things like blast your air conditioner and open your windows. Heck, try to avoid the A/C all together.
A Coffee Time in Scarborough was trashed and robbed by rowdy pub patrons last night. The worst part is that it’s the third time in 18 months this particular shop has been robbed.
Porter Air, the airline that’ll start flying from the Island Airport soon, will be using a cartoon raccoon as its mascot. While raccoons are often urban menaces: breaking into trash bins, bothering pets, causing power outages, and breaking into people’s attics and basements, it doesn’t mean that the poor animal deserves to be associated with Porter Air.
He pizzazes up the TTC, he makes sure that poor factory workers in Northern Ontario don’t lose their jobs and he drives city bureaucrats and politicians out of their minds. We’re talking about Howard Moscoe of course. But to our surprise Moscoe also runs a campaign sign business out of his office in City Hall. Yes, we know that using city property for private business is clearly illegal and the elections people are calling him on it. But you have to admire the efficiency of an elected official that can do all that AND run a campaign sign business on the side.
Toronto is getting a new arts festival. Luminato, which sounds an awful lot like a fizzy and tasty Italian beverage, will feature an Oratorio by Python Eric Idle and an art installation by Atom Egoyan. It will take place next June.

My air conditioner is hitting my back as I read this right now. It feels good. I don’t want to go outside again for the rest of my life at this point. I want to die, and have an air conditioner spread my ashes over a cool ocean.
P.S., “hats off” to The Star for this typo:

Hats off to concrete patcher Jorge Viegas for his unqie way of cooling off yesterday.

It’s almost impossible to avoid using A/C in this weather. I leave my thermostat around 23 to 25 degrees. I don’t think that’s too bad.
