We've all been to record release parties and book launches, but a party to celebrate the latest music video? Local indiepop crooner Gentleman Reg asks, "why not?" by hosting an event this Friday at the Drake Underground.
It's the video debut for "Over My Head," the second single from his adorable Darby & Joan record. Reg's previous outing on video was deemed too risque for MuchMusic. (Who knew they disapproved of make-out parties and sex tapes? See "The Boyfriend Song" for yourself here.) The new video? It's directed by local superstar Sara St. Onge and includes a very Canadian take on undressing. You'll have to come out and see for yourself.
On hand will be plenty of guests: The Phonemes, Township Expansion, DJ Pammm, and a "comedic interlude" from Holly and Inessa.
The Drake Underground, Friday at 9. Five bucks will get you in. Gentleman Reg's infectious pop is known to convince even the most stodgy to dance. Consider yourself warned.

Are video release parties a new idea? I've been to several. Doesn't strike me as odd... Maybe it's more common in TO hip-hop than other genres?
This actually isn't even the first time that Torontoist has written about a video release party. Last November, JKelly wrote a recap of the party for the release of ex-Gentleman Reg boyfriend Final Fantasy's "This Is The Dream of Win and Regine" video. That party was an all-star concert at The Boat, where the video was shot, and also, apparently, the breakthrough performance for Laura Barrett.
