Fighting for Peace

DSC_3954
This afternoon’s pro-Lebanon rally outside the Israeli consulate at Queen’s Park & Bloor was, like so many other recent partisan efforts, riddled with contradictions.
Some speakers called for an immediate ceasefire while applauding the deaths of Israeli soldiers in the same breath. Cameramen, reporters, and photographers were all treated like royalty (by eager protestors and organizers), while a speaker claimed that the war could not be just “another photo op for Stephen Harper.” A chant of “What do we want? Peace and justice!” was met with a few vocal supporters chanting only “justice!” over and over again.
War is over, if you want it. I guess.

God, I love it when anti-war protestors shout, “Death to *!”

Do you have any pictures of the burning of the Israeli flags?

I only hung around for part of the rally, before the march took place (I had to leave for work, unfortunately). I’m not surprised that some of the protestors burned Israeli flags, though. Some of them were really nice to me (mostly because I had a big-looking camera), but the environment was very, very tense the entire time that I was there.

Any protest that takes place in front of the ROM should be a protest against that hideous new addition. “Stop bombing Lebanon! Start bombing the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal!”
