Wilco (everyone's favourite alt-country turned rock band) played an incredible show last night at Massey Hall. Lead singer Jeff Tweedy [pictured] looked particularly frazzled: long, shaggy hair, Bob Dylan's beard, and a cast on his right leg. He sung his heart out, and was quite the charmer, dancing by dragging his hurt leg along the stage floor, and apologizing to the audience twice: one for not speaking until a half-dozen songs into the set, and one for calling the crowd "motherf*ckers" when they didn't cheer loud enough. The audience loved it, and Wilco must've felt the admiration: the band played two encores, ending with "Spiders (Kidsmoke)". The only downside of the show was the weak performance by openers The M's. Luckily, twenty seconds of "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" was all it took to forget about any bad band on the planet. Come back soon, Wilco.
If you missed the show and have a fast car, you might be able to catch up with Tweedy & Co. as they continue their North American tour over the next week, passing through London, Montreal, Dartmouth, Fredericton, Quebec City, and Ottawa before going south. WilcoBase has the setlist of last night's show, and there are a few more photos on Flickr.

Oh, I so wish I could've gone to this show. Sigh.
Btw, when did we get the weirdo preview thing that types along with you below the text box? It freaks me out.
The show wasn't the best for photography - everyone sat in their seats until the last 30 minutes or so - and I was pretty much confined to my balcony seat. But it was SO good. Tweedy is just so incredibly likeable.
As for that creepy preview thing, it was added just before the new Labs staff. Gothamist's crazy like that.
It was too bad you didn't like the M's. I thought they were really good. I ploped them into my Pandora.com and really like what I heard.
Nice pics BTW. All I had was my camera phone (tis tis)...but I did have my camera for the London show.
I think the M's are decent (if forgettable) on record, but live they were just bad: bad levels and a boring performance. The audience was restless, too, which doesn't help.
