We Hate Your Hate

2006_7_18hate.jpg
We hope this tag doesn’t catch on because we think there’s enough hate going around this city to last us a couple dozen TTC round trips.

Fixed…. the photo should be there in a minute or two.

“We hope this tag doesn’t catch on because we think there’s enough hate going around this city to last us a couple dozen TTC round trips.”
You are a fascist, graffiti rocks!

  • Greg

    Exhibit A, Evan.

  • Johnnie

Is this in reaction to all that “i love you” graffiti? Cause I always thought that was really sweet.

  • Evan

    “Exhibit A, Evan.”
That is right, I am Exhibit A of a hip, urban, graffiti positive person! It’s all good in this city of ours!

    Hey Evan,
I like graffiti but the message on this bomb is just annoying and anti-social. It’s a blanket statement about hate…. it’s not “I hate cars,” “I hate cops,” it’s just “I hate you.” Who needs that?

  • Evan

On one level I can see your point, but lets just not get too judgemental here. Graffiti reflects the city’s mood, if the vibe seems a bit bad I agree that’s not the best thing possible but dont’t dis it, don’t shoot the messanger. Move with it, embrace it. It is what is real in Toronto now.

  • Gloria

The city is the people. Clearly some people don’t like that message.

  • Sidd Pitt

Graffiti doesn’t reflect the city’s mood but it can sure help to set it.
It stops being culturally precious when it is done out of ego and out of love of the culture of graffiti itself. The act/art now is so much the realm of people who hide behind words like ‘fascist’ and ‘judgemental’ that it has become tiresome and obnoxious. The same people that would ask others to ‘embrace’ and show respect for the artform are the same people who wouldn’t give a second to embrace and respect an individual’s desire and right to not have their property and public spaces defaced.
So it does set a mood, an us versus them, a property owner versus tagger scenario that on the owner’s side goes from disappointment to hostility to a feeling of futility which leads to less effort being put into homes and businesses which cumulatively leads to urban decay.

The medium is the message. Or something. I just like that “I hate you” is written in this really flowy girly script. I can’t take it seriously.

  • Evan

Gee Sidd you are getting pretty haughty over a bit of paint. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it, or at least ignore it.
As the songs say “property is theft” and “anger is an energy”. “All things in common, all people one”.

Wow Evan, you’re such an anarchist! Good for you!
I’ll be right over to collect all your things, and see what you do about it, ok?

  • Boy Reporter

You see what I mean…. this tag is already doing its corrosive, evil, evil thing. If the tag said “I love you” all of you would just say awww and move along.
