Sometimes life gets too complicated for simple ideas, but inevitably they rise up to our consciousness. Over a year ago, the TTC said that they were revamping ttc.ca. It's still not done yet, and one oft-repeated suggestion is the ability to select a bus or streetcar route off a list sorted by name along with the current number sorted list. Picking out your timetable on the TTC's current list of 361 selections can be tricky at best: if you don't know the route number, you have to download the TTC Map, whoops, I mean this TTC map, and manually find your route number. After D. McKellar of hogdex experienced the trouble of what should be this simple task, he set up a street name ordered list with links to all the schedules.

just more evidence of why the ttc is a fucking joke. first we have citizens creating awesome ttc swag. then we have another nice dude vastly improve info on the TTC website. what's next? people voluntarily setting up credit card kiosks for metropasses and tickets? welding more bike racks onto busses during the night? we need LEADERSHIP from the clowns in power or else the people will take over (they already are!)
I'm just curious. If, hypothetically speaking, New York, Chicago, Portland, Boston, Ottawa, and Vancouver all had bus schedules on their web sites sorted by route number instead of street name, would the TTC for once be acknowledged as not that bad, comparatively?

I think this is more of a testament to the dedication of an individual than to the incompetence of the organization.
Sure, a drop-down list for these kind of lists are kindof inconvenient (no Ctrl + F), but whatever. I can deal.
There's sooo much wrong with the TTC website it's hard to know where to begin. Taking the Java ticker off the main page would even be an improvement.
I'd like to see a route-planning tool like Montreal's Tous Azimuts. But I won't hold my breath.

No more ticker!Yes, if anything's wrong and needing fixed ASAP, it's the TTC's website. Not the crumbling and dirty station platforms, not the obnoxious levels of advertising, not the unpredictable streetcar schedules, or the garbage that collects on the floors.

I heard vague words about a revamp ... but that was apparently supposed to happen in December. LAST December.
The lack of style and functionality by so many of the major organizations in Toronto is deeply embarrassing.
rek's comment seems to imply that issues like the ones (s)he raises must be dealt with linearly, one at a time.
Yes, the garbage needs to be collected regularly. But the website can ALSO be fixed. (and probably by a different resource...) It's a simple, low-effort task that would make users' ttc experience easier. Why wait for those other issues to be resolved?
