Torontoist needs a police scanner

This afternoon, perplexed Price Chopper shoppers are being greeted with this rear view of a police incident unfolding within the Gladstone Hotel. Police have the block thoroughly surrounded.
Torontoist has been informed that there is no immediate threat to public safety, but those hoping for a late lunch or early check-in will be turned away at the door.

Damn Torontoist and its west end bias!

  • Dissappointed with Police

I always find it frustrating just to find out what is happening in my own neighbourhood. I wish the Toronto Police would post on their website the most basic information about major radio calls where street closures are involved. Unfortunately, they’re pretty unresponsive when it comes to their accountability to the community. I mean seriously, how much would it cost to post 1 or 2 events per day for all of Toronto?

It seems that someone found a couple of handguns in the hotel so police shut it down to search the whole building. Perhaps the shooting at the Westin Harbour Castle has them being extra cautious.
I find a lot of these kind of stories can be found on the city TV website under the news stories. They are pretty good at picking up (and putting up) the smaller things that might not make it on tv.

CityTV was there filming it but there’s nothing on their website yet. There were cops with riot gear and machine guns walking up and down Queen St. all afternoon. Freaky.

Amanda-Marie Quinto from the Toronto Star reports:
“A plaque on the outside of the four-storey brick building describes its history, saying ‘it’s the only safe place for one’s great aunt to stay.’”
