Spying on Cops, Terror Informant Talks to Media, Howard Takes on TTC Smokers

Cops were surprised to learn that secret cameras were installed in various areas of the Toronto Police Association HQ. They were apparently installed some two years ago on the orders of a union director. Many are filing grievances others are wondering the building should be swept for bugs and other listening devices.

Police still have no clear theories about the double shooting in a Scarborough garage yesterday. They are looking for a pair of people who could be seen running away from the scene.

2006_7_14shaikh.jpgIt seems that CSIS had some help from a prominent member of Toronto's Muslim community in arresting 17 alleged terrorists last month. Mubin Shaikh has been helping CSIS for the last two years and will be testifying against the conspirators.

Cops arrest a long-time gymnastics coach for possession of child pornography.

Howard Moscoe wants TTC employees to stop smoking on TTC property. With all of the issues that the TTC has we think that smoking is pretty far down on the list, actually it's not even on the list.

they thought that cleaning graffiti on the NYC subway when people were being assaulted on platforms was like scrubbing the decks of the Titanic. then suddenly, crime plummeted in new york faster than anywhere else in the country! little things count :)

I agree with Kevin. It's hard to argue that going on transit leads to cleaner city air when you're sucking in carcinogens while waiting for the next bus.

Holy crap, I agree with Moscoe! (Must mark the date).

i think they ought to implement a no-shoes policy on the TTC, lest our beloved subway terrazzo and tile be continually 'poisoned' by the city's grime.

but seriously, it's kind of ironic how most subway stations have newsstands that sell cigarettes. maybe they should revert them back to the truest sense of their name, selling newspapers and magazines. or would that hurt TTC revenue? bit of a double edged sword if you think about it.

Nah, you don't have to smoke cigarettes you buy on TTC property *on* the TTC. It's possible for people to grab a pack while leaving, or just getting one to smoke once at their destination.

People complain about papers being left on cars and creating litter, but newspapers shouldn't be banned from newsstands. Same goes for food, which comes in wrappers and bags that also become litter.

The fact is that some people are inconsiderate, and inconsideration is what we should be banning.
