PhotoTO: Painted Telephone Boxes

A couple of weeks ago we found this box painted over on McCaul

This weekend it was this box just west of Ossington on Queen.

What a great way of brightening up an otherwise boring telephone box.

Has any one else seen more of these in the city? Let us know where!

They are pretty much all over Parkdale, and they are totally great!
Is it just me, or does that top one look like Joel Plaskett.

This is fantastic, and just the kind of thing that we need more of.

These are gorgeous! Great initiative.

The site leaves out the one on Bloor at Montrose. I saw the guys painting it and have been meaning to take a picture for months now. (Or maybe it's not part of this project.)

As mentioned above, this is the brain child of those talented people at Style in Progress. Those people are never-ending creative machines.

Actually, this is not the brainchild of Style in Progress, but an initiative started by Deputy Mayor Pantalone (Trinity Spadina).

The project is an effort to reduce vandalism through art. SIP was referred to Bell Canada by Pantalone after doing great work on his 2005 pilot project. The SIP artists did a great job on the designs!

Unfortunately, the SIP site doesn't include all the boxes - there are close to 50 across Toronto. The 2 links above show some of the earlier samples of which the Montrose box was one.
