Jays Fly to the Stars

Despite prior controversy, this news is too good to let pass.

Sunday was a sad day for The Jays as they capped a nice winning streak with a 11-6 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Ouch. But it's not all bad news for the boys in blue. Five Jays have been chosen to play in the Midsummer Classic... better known as the All-Star Game, played in Pittsburgh this month. That's more than the Yanks and the Red Sox!

Our All-Stars are pitching ace Roy Halladay, closer B.J. Ryan, third baseman Troy Glaus, plus outfielders Vernon Wells and Alex Rios. Rios is in hospital with an infection to his left shin, but will likely still make the trek to the Pitts'. Manager John Gibbons was also chosen to be part of the coaching staff.

This is the biggest contingent Toronto has sent for 13 years. Seven were chosen that year... and that team went on to win the World Series.
