Fr!ngeist: SplasH2O

2006_07_09fringeist.gif
After several days of beautiful weather, we were due for a nice storm. And since tanning is not an option today, go see a Fr!nge Play or two (or eight) this afternoon. To make sure you don’t see a dud.. read on…
Torontoist was lucky enough to catch SplasH2O yesterday, foreshadowing today’s moisture. You may have seen the trio around the Fr!nge Tent saturating passerbys with some impromptu aquatic comedy, but count yourself as lucky if you didn’t… you’d be going in fresh.
The French (from France) and Canadian (from here) import put on a technically tight production, looking at water in its various facets (faucets?) through high-energy, modern-mime, sketch comedy. While some of the filler sketches may have been done before, the vast majority of the show was drizzling with creativity and dripping with genius.
In the end, don’t be a wet blanket… go to the Fr!nge and go see these boys. Expect sold-out performances so buy your tickets in advance.
Warning: France Lost the World Cup (extra half ist awarded).
Pre-show music: Vaudevillesque Deliciousness.
Note: Family Friendly.

I’m seeing this tomorrow. You better be right, Robonto.

It was great… Robonto’s Pick of the Fr!nge.

Having seen it, I’m going to respectfully disagree with you, Rob. Maybe there’s something French Canadian that struck a chord with you (the humour, I was told, was “very French”), but my friend and I who saw it tonight didn’t think it was really that funny at all. Good, some good moments, but overall kinda weak. And it got a standing ovation, which about a third of the audience (including me) sat out. I guess that’s the epitome of hit or miss, then.

Uhhhhh. I agree with you slightly… the humor was perhaps a bit French (read: cultured), mostly because they all studied in a French school. But I doubt that my enjoyment had anything to do with the fact that I’m from Quebec… just like i doubt that 2/3 of your audience were French…
I think it’s more that you English are nothing but an uncultured brutes. Alas, opinions differ. Mine is just better.
(Don’t) go see Desperate Housepets or Welcome to Eden and tell me what you think.

Honestly, there was a point in the show when I was like “what was Rob thinking?”
I guess it was just weird to sit there, thinking it was allright, as people around me were completely losing control.

Knife through the heart, Topping… right through the heart.
    ouch.
