Bell Globemedia Buys Chum, Gets Bigger

2006_7_12chum.jpgBell Globemedia, owners of CTV, the Globe and Mail and a bunch of cable channels is in the midst of buying Chum, owner of CityTV, radio stations and even more cable channels. The resulting media conglomerate would be scary to say the least and probably own about half the specialty cable channels in Canada. It will also make the Canadian media scene just a little more concentrated. Bell Globemedia has indicated that it plans to keep CityTV intact but the question on all our minds is will they keep MuchMusic or MTV Canada?

They could always rebrand MuchMusic as MTV.

I refuse to believe in this. It is ONLY a bid and the CRTC still needs to approve the regulations for it and somehow I don't think that they will. They can't.

Can they??

Either way, it won't begin to go through until the late fall. How about we figure out who the poor 280 people to be let go from CHUM today were?

Just what we need, even more media concentration.

Let the CRTC know what you think:
