700 People Needed To Save The Revue

2006_7_24revue.jpgA couple of months ago when we posted about the impending demise of Festival Cinemas we got an outpouring of concern from this city's many film lovers. So we hope that it won't be hard for the Revue Film Society to raise the $20,000 it needs to save the west-end theatre.

They're looking for 700 people to donate at least $20 in the next month so they can take over operations of the theatre. "The cost of a film at a big box movie theatre is $12.50, which is where we will all have to go if the Revue is demolished. Add in popcorn and drinks and you're peeling a fresh 20," the group writes in an e-mail we recently received.

Good luck. Montreal's beloved Cinema du Parc rep house is closing next week.

They should offer a membership for the $20.

I'll be donating $50 when I get home.

Awesome! Now I don't have to!

(Kidding, kidding.)

What don't they do a fundraising "bake-off" , with
the Revue Film Society staff urged to donate cakes , cookies for
the competition.

For real, Sofi.
Here's a new link in case anyone else is interested:

Daniel Langlois is the multi-gazillionaire owner of Softimage, and I cannot help but think he's crying croc tears about the closure, as it leaves him free to focus on his pretentious arthouse jewel, Excentris, which nobody I know likes.

Sorry about all the Montreal content. There is no Montrealist, dammit.
