Porter’s Feet Are Still on the Ground

2006_06_28porter.jpg
Nonono, Canadian Idull Kalan Porter did not strike it big, but expect to see his name strewn across airplanes this year. (unaffiliated) Porter airlines is slated to begin operations on Toronto’s City Centre Airport. Their first destination will be Ottawa, with Montreal, NYC and Chicago coming later.
This new development is not coming without a fuss. Locals are angry and expect more noise and pollution to the area. Porter president Robert Deluce stated that flights would likely run from 7am to 10pm. My MP Olivia Chow (wow this riding is huge!) said in a statement that “It serves no public interest and should not receive a certificate to operate.”
This Torontoist is not convinced either way. After a $50 cab ride to Pearson’s a closer airport sounds fantastic. And when I go to the waterfront, tearing down condos seems like a better idea than getting rid of the airplanes. But these are all menial arguments really, after all, the West8 waterfront design agrees with Olivia: they paved over the airport with more park.

Note to all Porterheads and Kalanadians: Kalan Porter makes me feel awake in a dream, but the true colours of the Idol franchise is quite dull.

I’m not sure why nobody thinks of Buttonville for commuter airlines like this.

In a related and unrelated note all at once: I totally saw Ryan Malcolm this week. Dude’s hair is crazy.

Ryan Malcom? OMG! He’s so dreamy.

    Buttonville is closed.
And those Porter flights are going to cost more than $50 more than ones out of Pearson.
