Zoilus on Yuppie Band Names

2006_5_8postalservice.gifWe had a healthy discussion on animal band names on this blog and noticed that Zoilus has been having a rollicking talk on yet another naming trend, the professional occupation or as Zoilus puts it "Yuppie Band Names."

What's with these bands called Editors, or Architects (or The Architects)? It's the flip side of the Wolf/Bear/Eagle names, I suppose. But what's next - "Personal Finance Consultants"? Why not just say what you really mean and call yourself Eyewear?

Now that it has been brought to our attention we're also pondering this. What is also interesting is the history of blue collar band names: The Quarry Men, The Police, Men at Work (the ultimate working class band name if you ask Torontoist) and of course The Postal Service. There are others but this is all we can think of on short notice. Feel free to add more.

Where does "we are scientists" fit into all this?

I am now putting out a call to any and all musicians that frequent this site: Rehearsals for the new blogger super-group "Eyewear" begin at the end of the month.

Anyone? Anyone?
