Pants off, dance off. Indie exotic dancers (as opposed to exotic indie dancers) have probably been around for a while (didn't Nathalie Portman play one in Closer?), but it's still interesting to hear that dancers at the North Toronto boutique erotique Mystique Lounge are now entertaining to the sounds of Bloc Party, Arcade Fire and Franz Ferdinand. (Not all independent artists per se, but still falling under that catch-all phrase, "indie")

And it's not Mystique Lounge taking The O.C. formula of mixing left-of-centre music with easy-on-the-eyes performances for profit, it's the dancers themselves. So either dancers are becoming more progressive in their music choices, or they're seeing an untapped market in young, O.C.-watching, money-having, indie-loving and strip club-going professionals. More likely the latter. A case of enterprising dancers capitalizing on Franz Ferdinand singles, further proving the above-linked 'indie culture' to be a hugely marketable commodity featured on the most competitive of stages. (Why else would anyone choose to strip to the often morose lyrics of the Arcade Fire?)

A warning, though: don't go expecting to hear unreleased Death Cab, early Destroyer b-sides or whatever it is the kids are listening to these days. You'll hear the aforementioned bands in three-song dance sets, but this is still a generic strip club with, for the most part, generic music. They do serve apple pie though.
