We’re pretty excited about seeing Stan Douglas’ new installation at the AGYU. Douglas is one of Canada’s biggest video artists and his new work Inconsolable Memories is inspired by a 1960s Cuban film. Combine this with his breathtaking large-format photos of Havana and you get a pretty special show.
The exhibit opens tonight with the return of the AGYU bus. Going along with the Cuban inspired art artist Luis Jacob will be giving impromptu Spanish lessons on the bus. The ride up, the lessons and the art are all free. Get on at the AGO, 6pm, tonight.
If you haven’t had your fill of art after the AGYU hop back on the bus and catch a screening of But it is not the end: The Experimental Ethnography of Nicolás Guillén Landrián (another Cuban filmmaker) back at the Cinematheque. Both Douglas’ piece and the doc are part of the Images festival.
