Toronto Continues Danish Love Affair

2006_3_2kira.jpgIn 2004, before the Danes inadvertently set the Muslim world on fire with their cartoons, Toronto had its own little Scandinavian invasion in the form of the Superdanish festival. For a couple of months all we could think about was how to get to Coppenhagen.

Well it seems like those bookers at CMW share the same love for those delightful Danes, booking bands like Danish "Grammy" nominees Kira and the Kindred Spirits (pictured) and Figurines. Stuart Berman over at Eye does a nice job summing it all up. The showcase is on tonight at the Drake, first band's at 9:00pm, $10.

Not to be outdone, Denmark's Scandinavian cousins the Finns are also putting on a little show of their own. Probably the most striking are danceable noise-pop band The Cleaning Women who'll be at the Bovine Sex Club tonight, 1:00 AM, also as part of CNW and Mar. 8 at the Now Lounge.
