The TTC a Site for Romance?

2006_3_9streetcar.jpgTorontoist was watching Hour Town, Adam Vaughan’s local affairs show last night when the bespectacled host made an off-the-cuff remark about “the romance of the Red Rocket.” He was apparently referring to a caller’s comments about enjoying the lakeside view on the Harbourfront streetcar line. Which got us thinking are there any particular routes/parts of routes on the TTC that you dear Torontoist reader find especially romantic? Does your heart go aflutter when the streetcar or bus goes by a certain intersection? What about the subway, it goes above ground every once in a while, any romantic bells there?
We’re also encouraging any particularly juicy stories about lovin’ on the TTC, yours or someone else’s.

It’s obvious, but going under the Bloor St. Viaduct is a lot of people’s favourite bit, with the long views down to the lake, sometimes people sledding over in Riverdale Park, or a glimpse of downtown. But what makes it best is going through after a long day of work, and watching every person on the train raise their head for a look, and the last bit of daylight.

I met Lori on the Queen streetcar on the way to a rave at the Opera House

The King St. East streetcar is rather nice, as it goes through old Toronto.

It’s more of a car memory, but sometimes when you’re heading up or down the Allen, you can race TTC trains that appear on the surface for a while. It’s pretty much the only thing worth looking at on the abbreviated Allen, and at night, with the windows all lit up yellowy, it actually looks pretty and futuristic.

I love the view of Riverdale park, the Don Valley and all of downtown’s lights when you’re taking a southbound streetcar on Broadview at night.

The romance is arguable, but I think the entire 504 King streetcar route is fantastic and can be used as a perfect induction into Torontopia for someone new to this town. Really, just think of all the nabes it goes through…Greektown/The Danforth –> Riverdale Park –> Chinatown East –> Queen-Broadview Village –> Corktown –> Old Town/St. Lawrence –> The Financial District –> The Theatre/Entertainment District –> King/Spadina –> Liberty Village –> Parkdale –> Roncesvalles –> The Junction (well the southern end at least).

Beautiful route=the view of downtown over the park on the Broadview 504/505.
It’s one of my favourite views of the city.

3 of my favourite things to look at when the subway emerges from the tunnel. all in the west bit.
    1) graffitied wall between dundas west and keeles stations
    2) the humber river between jane and old mill stations
    3) old people eat their dinners between high park and runnymede station
