The city's right-wing councillors are trying to gang up on Mayor Miller and his budget. The Star reports that councillors Ootes, Minnan-Wong, Stintz, Shiner and Feldman strategized and decided that an item-by-item debate was not necessary. Instead council will be voting on the broad principles of the budget. The move is seen as a way to "sharpen" the debate perhaps adding fuel to the barely smouldering Pitfield vs. Miller flame.

If their motion is to fight the mayor on the big picture, I say: Bring it on.

A cyclist took a fatal tumble over a bridge railing in Mississauga.

The Sun scoops everyone and reports that the city is recruiting and paying its own staffers extra to fill polls during November's municipal election. It's got the city's right-wing incensed:

"I don't remember approving it. It confirms what we've always known that we do not have a cash crisis ... we're cash-rich." said Jane Pitfield.

Torontoist wants to point out that a councillor forgetting that they approved something isn't exactly a convincing argument. Anybody remember Howard Moscoe's three-card-monteesque pay raise amendment? Finally using city-staffers as poll clerks is kinda stupid. Why don't we just use Elections Canada or Elections Ontario and get them to recruit poor students and out of work freelancers to fill the polls?
