How Does Your Garden Grow?

Torontoist was happy to see Dale Duncan's piece in this week's eye about urban/community gardens. It might not feel like spring quite yet but soon it'll be time to dig in the dirt and plant seeds. With more and more of us living in apartments and condos a little bit of time with green space, getting our hands dirty, is getting harder and harder to find. So we're glad to see that this city's community gardening culture is alive and well.

According to Dale's piece the city is shooting to have at least one community garden in each ward and some have more than one. Here's the list. We encourage those who are interested to contact your local garden coordinators right away, spots are often hard to come by. Torontoist tried to get a plot in his local garden last year and ended up sulking like a displaced peasant on the waiting list.

Foodshare currently has a program that teaches you how to start your own gardens in case you don't have one, but sadly classes are already under way. That being said, the lovely people of Foodshare are probably some of the best resources in the city for community gardening. They're also responsible for a few lovely gardens, like the one pictured above at the CAMH site on Queen St. If you need a little more inspiration or know-how Foodshare is also hosting Seedy Saturdays this weekend at Scadding Court.
