Guns, Gay Activists, Girls Gone Wild

2006_3_28weston.jpgGun violence has claimed two more lives; a sixteen year old boy and a man were killed in a rash of gun violence yesterday night as shootings flared all over the city. They’re the city’s 14th and 15th murders. Four other people were shot last night but fortunately they all survived. Torontoist suspects that warmer weather will mean more gun violence.
The Star’s story is here and another story here.
The Loney family apparently kept James Loney’s homosexuality secret during his four-month ordeal for fear that his captors would not react favourably to his sexual orientation.
Jane Pitfield starts her mayoral campaign with an old chestnut, tax cuts. The city apparently has $81 million dollars kicking around from last year, Mayor Miller wants to sock it away in a rainy day fund. Pitfield wants to use it now to avoid tax hikes and raising TTC fares. Meet her half-way Dave. Keep the tax hike but stop hiking TTC fares.
The stabbing of that 12-year old girl is causing a lot of people to ask what exactly are 12-year olds doing in the club district in the middle of the night? Councillor Mammoliti has gone as far as to ask the police to consider charging the girl’s parents. And guess what now the idea of a curfew for teens is back on the table. There’ll be a lot of “I told you so’s” the next time this goes before council.

Honestly. Mammoliti’s the same guy who suggested a curfew for teens in the Jane/Finch area last year during the “summer of the gun”. Maybe that’s his answer for everything…
