Google Maps is the Best....Double True

2006_3_21ttcmap.jpg
A few random pieces of random TTC news that we managed to cobble together into a post. The first is that the TTC is talking to Google to revamp their maps/route scheduler so that users can simply google their way to the most efficient TTC trips. Considering users have been using Google Maps to mash everything from Toronto murder scenes to abandoned trash/treasures in NYC streets, the TTC routemapper seems like a total cinch.

The TTC is in need of some remedial French spelling lessons. Turns out that the emergency stickers on bus windows have a typo on the French word for handle (poigne, in case you were wondering). The spelling mistake was apparently unfixed for years until Howard Moscoe's 13-year old granddaughter noticed and complained! At least somebody was paying attention in French class.

Also, because we have to end things violently. Two men were stabbed on a TTC bus yesterday. Both victims are expected to recover.

I have to give credit to the TTC for trying with its French. It is unacceptable for the mistake, but it could be worse.

I go to school here in Montreal, and the STM (Societe de transport de Montreal) is horrendous with its English.

While the emergency signs have English text, its much smaller than the French and harder to read. But what bugs me the most is that all announcements are in French only. If the train is on fire and you only know English, you're forced to follow the pack.

As a Toronto native, i definitely appreciate home more and more.
