For the second week in a row, we are featuring ‘boughten’ (as our friend from West Lorne says) cookies from around the world, but at least this time we know exactly where to send you. Ballerina cookies are our favourite Ikea impulse buy (after desk lamps, that is. But after lord knows how many years of shopping at Ikea, we no longer have enough outlets for all our lamps). At $.99 for tubular package of 12, we don’t even care that these chocolate hazelnut sandwich cookies are usually a bit on the stale side, especially since that makes them ideal for dunking in coffee – our preferred method of consumption.
But stale Ballerina cookies (seriously, though, don’t knock ‘em ’til you’ve tried ‘em) aren’t the only foreign confection to be found in Ikea’s food stores. We are also particularly fond of Krusball, a coconut-flavoured marshmallow covered in Dairy Queen-style chocolate dip. In addition to being extremely tasty and appealingly sticky, Krusball has the added bonus of having a name that doubles as a vague cuss. Krusball!
