All The Lonely People?

2006_3_20craigslist.jpgThe National Post Toronto section has a chintzy little story on the top 10 pick-up joints.

Some of the sites are questionable, Woodbine Racetrack, the Shouldice Hospital (which specializes in hernias!). Others kinda make sense, High Park is a no-brainer and so's the boulevard on Lakeshore, the Chapters on John Street also gets picked as a good spot, you can invite your new crush for a movie right away if you're really slick. The subway also gets suggested, and although we're advocates for TTC courtships we're also a little wary after seeing way too many skeezy men try to pick up women on this city's streetcars and subways. Case in point here.

We kinda think that writer Georgie Binks' picks skew to an older crowd, first time divorcees trying to get back into dating perhaps? But seeing how Torontoist scans Craiglist's missed connections listings like there's no tommorow and has little or no luck, maybe it's about time he try out some of the sites on the list. With this in mind we once again ask you, oh loyal reader, for your "top 10 spots for singles"

The Toronto Special had a much better story about picking up on the ttc.

Yuh, the Shouldice? Yeah, there are lots of men there. But they're old, slow-moving, unable to shower and their groins are all scarred and swollen.

HOT.

I posted my very first TTC missed connection this weekend. It was for true but I'm considering just sticking one generic one up there every few days for kicks:

Queen streetcar on Saturday afternoon,

Me: Black coat, reading a magazine, caught your eye for a split second and smiled
You: Adorable girl with shopping bags, smiled back.
Go for a drink at the Drake?

i picked up lori on the queen streetcar

Ben, dude, if the girl smiled back, that's your signal to move IN!

C'mon, man, don't be a wuss!

It's a petite monde when it come to amour, Kevin. I painted a big pink heart on Parliament St. because of you and Lori.

But the wuss did got the best of me on the streetcar, KC. Not only is the girl smiling at me, but some other rider's puppy is crawling all over her. That's like god saying, Hey I'll soften her up for you, give you a great in, and make you look anerable when you rub the little feller behind the ears, but, you know that free will thing I gave you and all? you're actually going to have to get up and GO OVER THERE.

I would love to see this pick up spot idea into an Ist List.

(I have nothing to contribute. Maybe if I knew good spots, I wouldn't be single!)

i hear ya, briana ... :(

i hear ya, briana ... :(

both pick up spots (outdoor and indoor) and ttc pickup spots have been on torontoist...we had top 5 meat markets and outdoor make out on ist list, and paige and adrian hit the best ttc stations to make out in he said/she said.

check the ARCHIVES, you know.

ar chives??

sorry, you're right... though i think there's a difference between a good pick up spot and a "meat market", as well, make out spots imply that you've already got at least one partner!

TO's top pickup spot: TOist. Chris, meet Briana. Briana, meet Chris.

^it's true.

Just ask Adrian. He loves getting girlies on here.

My inaugural (and rather unofficial) TOist singles club post is up now on craigslist missed connections.

Bets on me needing a section called missed missed connections?

Girlies Paige??? Don't you mean easy, trashy bloggers?

hi briana,

come here often? ;)

Hmm,
I think missed connections are kindof sweet...like every quality you've ever dreamt about in a significant other can be embodied in this one incredibly attractive person (well attractive to you anyway) but without the responsibility of committment. Like an escapist romance....
