Nut Your Average Council Debate

peanutsshiner.jpgThe nuts down at City Hall are at it again.

But not the nuts you might think - both Denzil Minnan-Wong and Rob Ford have nutting to do with this one. It's Councilor David Shiner, Ward 24 - Willowdale, who is the nut in this case. He wants to ban the sale of peanuts at city-owned facilities like hockey rinks and community centres. The councilor says the threat of allergies is a good enough reason for counter-peanut action, but the Board of Health says peanuts can be a healthy snack. A contentious issue that could divide a city. We're staying out of it.

Great post!
What a walnut! (walnuts just seem like the least cool, or most door knobish of the nuts)

You know Josh I have would agreed with you and thought it was nuts if I read this post before having kids. My child has a peanut allergy and my nephew too. Even trace amounts of nuts whether through cross contamination or air borne can trigger anaphalyxsis. I would never wish the experience on anyone, about 9 yrs ago, I spent the longest night of my life in the Sick Kid's Emerg ward with my 18 mth old daughter who had an allergic reaction, seeing your daughter hooked up to an IV unit in an oxygen tent on your birthday. She had an anaphalytic reaction due to a food allergy which of course, I wasn't aware of until it actually happened, fortunately our neighbour happened to be a doctor and she was at home and recognized it immediately and administered benadryl and we got her to the hospital just in time for them to give her an epinephrine shot or she would have died on the spot.
