Jurrasic Beaver Found

2006_2_24beaver.gifPaleontologists have discovered the remains of a beaver/otter/platypus like creature that once played along riverbanks during the Jurrasic era, some 100 million years ago, and alongside dinosaurs hundreds of times its size. LIke modern day beavers the animal would’ve used its tail for swimming and may have even used it to slap the water, warning others of its kind of predators.
Though not related to modern day beavers, Torontoist can help but feel a little bit of strange pride over the fact that our national symbol has such a strong “lineage.” The animal is evidence that mammalian evolution was further along than scientists previously though. Fortunately it wasn’t far along enough for this particular animal to shill cellphones.
Joseph Hall, writing in the The Star even thinks that a little T-rex snacking on a small prehistoric rodent wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
