It’s the 2nd Annual TTC Fare Hike Day

2006_2_9tokens.jpgAlmost a year to the day, the TTC is announcing a second fare hike. Most pranksters use whoopee cushions, fake phone calls and deception to play April Fools’ Jokes. Howard Moscoe and the TTC just use fare hikes. As of Apr. 1 getting on the Better Way is going to cost you $2.75, which means a round trip goes over the $5 barrier. Torontoist suggests that penny pinchers start hoarding tickets and tokens now.
More expensive fares will only raise the temptation of enterprising criminals who allegedly have been pumping out fake tokens and tickets.

    Hoard all you want, but the commission is doing something never done in my 22 years on the job, changing the tokens! And as you all know, old fare media can only be used for 1 month after the hike, so you won’t be saving anything. Skirt that by using the token turnstiles? Nice try, there’ll be new machines that the old tokens won’t fit into!I look forward to the next nearly 2 months of people banging on my booth so they can come out and buy a roll, then watch as they go to the next station and do the same.     Chicago just raised our transit fare as well. We are up to $2.00 cash or $1.75 if you use this pointless Touch-and-Go card which is equal to $2.00CDN — oh wait, I thought ours would be worse b/c the US economy is crappy but it’s about the same. $2.75! I guess you win.

    I just heard that the TTC has found out about this ginormous ticket or token scam. Bigger than the one before. They will be announcing it tomorrow. Is this why they are going to change the tokens?

    great. the ttc is raising fares to help pay for the installation of new machines which won’t fit the old tokens . . .
    plus they’re raising fares to somehow defer overcrowding on subway cars – meanwhile a streetcar, whose name I won’t mention, is turning into a group grope and the fare hike will alleviate this how?

    the ttc should merchandise itself like the mta – tshirts, caps, umbrellas, keychains, whatever. . . if they keep the design cool and minimal it could raise cash for them
