Broken Social Speakers

whiteman.jpgIf the success of a night is measured in the number of Broken Social Scene affiliates in attendance, then last night's FilmCan fundraiser at the Social was a blockbuster.

At least six of the 17 members of Broken Social Scene came out for $3.50 pints of Labatt Cinquante and a performance by fellow-BSSer Apostle of Hustle (ne Andrew Whiteman, pictured) with one-part of Fembots opening up. Unfortunately for Whiteman and Whiteman fans, the sound at the Social best resembles a shrieking marmot, with no absolute disregard for volume levels. Aside from the amphibious rodent-like speakers, Whiteman was all crowd pleasing all the time. The lanky AoH covered both Metric and the Walkman, as well as throwing off a few songs from his debut Folkloric Feel.

Also: We have to give credit to the tall dude next to us that took this photo. After we watch a portion of the show from his armpit (it very cramped), he offered to use his reach to take this mid-rock out shot. "Now you can put that picture on your blog," the long-armed fan said. And we did.

It was a great show last night - congrats to the awesome filmCAN organizers! Dave MacKinnon of the FemBots was great, as usual. And there was a BSSer every where you looked last night...those kids know where the party is at!
