In a news story that will neither surprise nor sadden anyone, Planet Hollywood, that surreal tourist trap once backed by the likes of Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and the Governator, is closing its Toronto location, which lay tucked conveniently underneath the CN Tower for maximum tacky tourism efficiency (in fact, this may have been a ploy to keep the tourists out of the good part of Toronto...).
Torontoist is sad (well, not really) to say that our only Planet Hollywood experience was in New York City on a camp group trip when we were 14. We couldn't help but be a little ashamed to be seen there even at that tender age, though we did think that Ferris Bueller's sweatervest was pretty nifty. In any case, we don't have much to say about this story - we're sure an equally appalling tourist trap will fill the space in no time, and we will ignore whatever it turns out to be just as pointedly. Really, we just wanted an excuse to share Arnie's face on a pumpkin:

You know, we bet if Planet Hollywood had put one of these puppies in the window last Halloween, they would still be going strong.

RIP curly fries and bottomless pepsi. :((((((
Re: Arnie pumpkin
I don't think that business would improve, if the Hard Rock put a Governor Terminator pumpkin as a window display it would have even killed off business faster than Tookie as some wannabe crip would have shot it in his memory.
The sad fact is that the guy who founded the failed Planet Hollywood chain is now running a econemy in Calliiforrnia that is larger than France.
PS Typekey sigins send you to Gothamist.com
kind of unrelated, but speaking of shut downs-- what ever happened to the Bishop and the Belcher on queen west?
Rumour has it that the B&B is moving...Bloor and Sherbourne, maybe? I feel like I heard that from an unreliable source a couple of months ago. Until it reopens, though, I guess I'll just have to bring our my Trivial Pursuit cards when I go out to the pub...
Does anyone know what is going to replace Planet Hollywood? What have they done with all the memorobelia and stuff inside the restaurant?
