Crosby, Steen and Habs

sydcros.jpgFor the first time in his young NHL career, The Crosby Show airs in Toronto, as hockey phenom Sidney Crosby takes to Canadian ice for the first time in his professional career against the Leafs tonight. The Cros faces off against impressive Leaf rookies Alexander Steen and Kyle Wellwood before playing the Montreal Canadiens later this week. (That information was only provided to make the title of this post work.)

This visit is important, however, as it could be a moment of redemption for the Cros, as he was left off the Team Canada roster for the Winter Olympics in favour of more experienced criminals players. With all of Canada watching (well, Bob McKenzie will be watching at least), this is Crosby's chance to prove himself. Admittedly, number 87 has barely reached the age of majority, and could be described as overrated thus far, but he's got more to offer than Phoenix Coyotes' forward Shane Doan. (Not to mention, Sid the Kid has yet to offend French Canadians.)

In order to impress Team Canada roster-picker and Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky, though, Crosby will have to do a lot more than just skate circles around Bryan McCabe.

Alexander Steen is doubtful tonight, still nursing nagging thumb injury. No sense rushing him into the lineup with the team playing so well.

Played. Two Assists.
