ATSA (Action Terroriste Socialement Acceptable), the Montreal art collective, responsible for the burnt-out SUV installation at Dundas Square last summer is coming back to Toronto. They won't be blowing up any SUVs, but drivers of gas guzzlers might want to watch out anyway.
Over the last few months the group has been working on a different project that pokes fun at the gas-guzzling giants. They've created and distributed thousands of "tickets" that fine SUV owners for things like high gas consumption, idling and more. In Montreal they distributed around 10,000 of these tickets, confusing and angering SUV owners but also getting the group a lot of media attention.
They're bringing the project to The Theatre Centre as part of YYZ Artist Outlet's Art+Activist and the Theatre Centre's Free Fall shows going on right now. If you want to help ATSA distribute these tickets come down to the Theatre Centre, Feb. 3 4:00pm (Queen and Dovercourt). Copies of the tickets will be installed at YYZ later that night.

Newsstand: November 9, 2009
Picking on SUV drivers is so passe. Next.
next: hummers!
Are they car-pooling the 500 plus kilometers from Montreal to Toronto? Cause that's a lot of gas.
Bravo Torontoist....going to SpacingWire for your story ideas. First the Star, then the Globe and then Spacing. Original content? fuggetaboutid
We LOVE the Spacing Wire and for the record I actually forwarded this press release for them yesterday AFTER I posted this piece. We usually credit the Spacing Wire when we find something that we like. So, every once in a while we do have original content.
Where's the art? Who are the artists?
Thanks for the response on the Spacing wire...good move. With respect, I fully retract my obnoxious post. Bravo!
