Ist List: Coziest Pubs # 5
All pubs in England have a fireplace. It's the law. That's because an evil witch has made it winter all year round, so it's important to keep warm while getting sloshed. Our fair city can also get pretty cold – witch or no witch – so this Ist List is dedicated to Toronto's coziest places to curl up with a few pints of holiday cheer. The criteria? Maybe a fireplace and good strong ales. We start our countdown in Cabbagetown, at The Underdown (263 Gerrard St. E.).
Hidden away in Cabbagetown, not many people will ever find this place. First, you have to traverse a tricky set of steps, which could be a little treacherous if there's snow on the ground. But don't give up! Once inside, there's plenty to like. Venture to the back, and you will find some soft couches that actually suck in your body, right beside a roaring fire. But warmth also comes from the intimate, wood-blessed interior. The selection of beer on tap might not be the greatest, but they've got a lot to bottles to offer. Definitely one of the east end's hidden treasures.

Another cozy pub is The Crooked Star at 202 Ossington, just south of Dundas. Small, friendly, warm, great music, the best nachos in the city.
reeeeeeeeeeeeally. i'm going to investigate this asap.
had nos 1 and 2 all set but some deliberation is now required. thanks kennen.
Full respect to your opinion (Some friends swear by it too) but I've got to go on record as saying the crooked star sucks.
SOME staff and patrons need to get a sense of humour and get over themselves.
Sadly I'll probaly end up there again when the commies daughter hits capacity.
