The Cake of the Nation

cake.jpgThis business – a piece of chocolate banana cake and a Future Bakery cake card – is definitely not an election issue. But should it be?
Prime Minister Paul Martin doesn’t eat cake. His diet precludes him from eating anything similar to this chocolate banana concoction. He’s also known to drink 10-15 cups of coffee per day, with rumoured bouts of insomnia as a by-product. Other signs of an unbalanced diet include fits of anger (including throwing a phone) and erratic behaviour (not really, though he is known for making phone calls at all hours of the night). Approaching his 70′s, little is known of the PM’s health overall outside his diet and phone-related activities. Could opposition leaders make the PM’s diet an election issue, a la Dick Cheney’s heart condition? If so, does the beef-loving Stephen Harper have the moral authority to question Mssr Martin’s eating habits? If party leaders’ bill-of-health does go on to become a factor in the January 23 election, look for the bicycle-riding Jack Layton to take the cake.
