The Secret Peter C. Newman Vote?
First, a little background information:
Peter C. Newman is a well-buffed journo who recently published some conversations he had with the father of Ben Mulroney. Peter C. Newman writes for the National Post and has nothing but love and admiration for John Tory.
Torontoist is a medium-sized Toronto blog that naturally reflects the political values of all Canadians. Torontoist writes a lot of stuff and dislikes John Tory – only because he hasn’t done anything ever and looks a bit like a cream-puff.
The above information becomes particularly intriguing last week, when Torontoist received an NDP newsletter email with the subject heading: “Who’s Peter C. Newman Voting for?” Obviously the email was opened. Clearly the email was read. Understandably, we wanted to find out what the Peter C. Newman vote would be. We got this:
“People should vote for the NDP…I would like to see Layton get a real balance of power…Then they would be able to reconstitute the social contract, which Mulroney really broke when he did away with universality. And that could be quite revolutionary.”
Did Peter C. ever really give away who he’s voting for? No. The quote, chopped up from an interview on The Tyee, gives no concrete answers whatsoever. So now we find ourselves back at square one, with the same insights into Peter C. Newman’s voting tendencies as before we opened that email. And in the end, nobody wins: we never really found out what we wanted to find out, and, as a result, this post wasn’t very eventful.
